Yantra - Mandala Yantra
The Sanskrit word comes from the prefix "yang" which means "to conceive", "mental conception." Yantra, therefore, literally means "instrument." Refers to some complex geometric representations and energy levels of the cosmos (custom in the form of the chosen deity) and the human body (as microcosmic replica of the macrocosm).
The Hindu Yantra has a function similar to the one with the mandala of Tibetan Tantrism. What the difference is that the mandala design has a more painterly and drawn on a circular which contains its constituent elements. The Yantra is therefore a kind of mandala used by Tantrism, where the images are purely geometric.
The Yantra typically consists of a square edge that includes circles, lotus petals, triangles and a central point known as root-bindu, representing the creative matrix of the universe and the gateway to the transcendental Reality.
The Yantra provides a focal point that is a window to all. The idea is to make the Yantra as real, internally and externally, that comes to life.
